All About Us

'Orkes Melayu Mutiara' made its debut in the entertainment arena as 'Sri Penambang Ghazal' back in 1967.

It was later renamed as 'Mutiara Ghazal' during the Radio and Television Of Singapore (RTS) and Singapore Broadcast Centre (SBC) era. Back then, Mutiara Ghazal's music was regularly played on the local radio stations.

In 1972, after a reshuffle, they made the decision to change their group name to the current 'Orkes Melayu Mutiara'. They started getting invitations to perform on TV shows, events as well as for weddings.

Orkes Melayu Mutiara was under the leadership of the Late Mr. S.Maulood Al Haj. Currently, it is led by Mr. Nasir Abdullah.

Mr. Nasir Abdullah began his music journey at a young age of 14. He was part of his family 'Ghazal' group which consists of 10 members.

Mr. Nasir Abdullah's passion heightened after he participated in a 'Ghazal' Competition (Malaysia & Singapore) held at Victoria Theatre when he was only 16.

Ever since Mr. Nasir Abdullah and his group entered several 'Ghazal' competitions and won accolades including Singapore Culture of Arts competition where they clinched the champion title.

Mr. Nasir Abdullah's ambition is to become a famous accordion player. He wishes to share his love of Malay traditional music to the new generations around the world.

Orkes Melayu Mutiara covers all type of music genres. Their singers include legendary as well as upcoming new artists such as Late Hasnah Kana, Late R.Ismail, Irma Yanti & Osman Umir.
